Kirk McElhearn is a lapsed New Yorker living in Shakespeare’s home town, Stratford-upon-Avon, in the United Kingdom. He writes about things, records podcasts, makes photos, practices zen, and cohabits with cats.

Kirk writes about Apple hardware and software, computer security, photography, books, music, and more. As a Senior Contributor to Macworld for more than 15 years, he wrote hundreds of articles and reviews, including the Ask the iTunes Guy column and the Hey Apple, Fix This! column.

He is a regular contributor to The Mac Security Blog, The Literature & Latte Blog, and TidBITS, and has written for Popular Photography, Tricycle, The Startup Finance Blog, Folks, MusicWeb International, as well as several other web sites and magazines.

Kirk has written more than two dozen books, including Take Control books about macOS Media Apps (post iTunes), Scrivener, LaunchBar, and Audio Hijack. He has written documentation for dozens of popular Mac apps, as well as press releases, web content, reports, white papers, and more. He is also a French-English translator, and has a Master’s degree in applied linguistics.
